In the market of rifle scopes, there are a lot of different competitors. There are ziess, Nikon, and leupold – but what about some cheaper, less expensive rifle scopes? How about something that I can actually afford? If these questions interest you, then you will enjoy this article. Like many others, lots of folks were raking in the dough several years ago before the economy dipped so low. In that time, people were dropping shiny dimes on top dollar scopes such as the ones that I listed above. However, these days the situation is much different. These days people are looking for an optic that is much more affordable. Actually, the majority of consumers want a scope for their gun for under a hundred bucks. Is that even possible? Is there even a scope out there that is quality for that kind of money? Like many of you, I have had these exact same questions regarding the cheaper, more affordable optic equipment. However, unlike a lot of people, I simply have to know. I go out and buy some popular discounted sights to see what they are really made of. Call me a junky, a guinea pig – just call me whatever you would like. I don’t care. I simply like to know how things work and how they are made. With that mindset, I learn the real differences between the high dollar stuff and the stuff for under one hundred dollars. So with that said, if you want to learn more about a really cheap red dot sight, the refer to my post about the utg iden image red dot sight for some great information regarding an optic for under fifty dollars. Today’s review is on another brand – center point. Some of you may have seen this brand at your local wally world. I simply could not resist. I got the bigger, mac daddy version with a mil dot reticle and like 16x magnification. I don’t remember the exact magnification, but I do remember that it was more than nine times because that was one of the main attractions. Another great attraction was the fact that it has red and green reticle illumination.
So, what I did was put this center point scope on a high dollar seven millimeter magnum. If you are wondering why I put a seventy dollar scope on a thousand dollar gun, then you probably think I am crazy. Well, I will tell you that I am not crazy. I put the brand new center point rifle scope on my seven mag because I didn’t have anything else to put on it and had to share my other sako (my prized possession) with my girl. Man I am a good guy. The sako was also topped with a zeiss commander or conqueror (can’t remember the name). So, I mounted it and manually bore sighted it without even taking a shot – yes I am that good. Then I took a shot, it was on paper, so a I made a few adjustments, fire a few more rounds, and then had it dead on at a hundred yards. Took it out in the woods that weekend and killed two deer with it. So I am satisfied with this rifle scope, especially for only paying seventy bucks for it.
UTG lden Image Red Green Dot Sight Review
If you have read any of my other posts regarding rifle scopes, then you know that I am somewhat of a rebel. I say the things that no one else dares to admit. In the last post on barska scopes, I stated that the only real difference in quality in my opinion were the two scopes ability to collect light for hunting in the last hour or so of legal hunting time. Anyways, today I will be talking about yet another cheap rifle scope that I happened upon after Christmas. The UTG Iden Image red dot sight for the money. I will get into the review of this red dot shortly, but first let’s talk about why so many people think scopes like these are scams. Most customers think that it is too good to be true for the price. I can’t make you people believe me, but I will tell you that this red green dot sight IS worth the thirty bucks. I have used it on a .223 and it was able to withstand the recoil and hold zero. Now, that is not to say that this sight could stand up to a big caliber like a seven mag, but there is no reason to say that it couldn’t. I am about ninety five percent positive that this red dot is made by leapers, but I could care less. If you are worried about it breaking on a high powered gun then don’t be, the vast majority of people who want a scope like this use it on .22, .223, paintball guns, and air soft. To be quite honest, that is all I really expect of this discounted shooting optic.
So what is the bottom line regarding the utg iden image red green dot sight by leapers? My review and bottom line is a big thumbs up. Is it the best shooting optic available/ Heck no, but will it get the job done for hundreds of dollars less – well it sure has for me. That’s about all I have to say about it. It has held up to recoil, it zeroed in with ease, and it is clear. Great scope for the thirty bucks.

Natural Deer Repellent Tips
Today we are here to talk about three natural repellents for deer that work. Before we get started, I would like to state first off that I am constantly doing something in the outdoors. I love to hunt, garden, farm, and anything else that has to do with getting out in nature. I have had much experience with deer and have been able to learn a lot about them over the years. I understand their patterns, what they like to eat, and a lot of information regarding their daily habits. With all that knowledge, I have become really successful with repelling them. Whatever you would like to call it – deer repellent, control, deterrent, I have some experience to share with you guys. Now, let’s all be moderate here and respect each others opinions and styles because the world is full of people who do not see eye to eye. As I stated earlier, I am a proud deer hunter and conservationist. Yes, I do understand that there are many folks out there that have a problem with that. Anyways, repelling deer the natural or organic way is always a good start. Now when I think of natural, I think of nature – don’t you? Well, in nature there are predators and there are prey. So, the first natural deterrent strategy discussed in this article will be asking a hunter to control your deer population. If you have a problem with hunting, then simply go to the next step. A safe hunter should be able to harvest a few deer and which will in turn keep them from eating your crops, garden, or plants.
Another organic deer repellent is liquid fence. To my knowledge, this spray or liquid is made from eco friendly, green ingredients and is safe for the environment. That is pretty natural if you ask me. There are plenty of other products out on the market in this day and time that do the exact same thing. So therefore, we will move on to the next idea. Hair has been known to keep deer out of a garden or piece of property for a long time. If you have never tried using hair to repel deer, then you may want to give it a shot. For whatever reason, deer do not like the smell of hair. From my experiences, they get skittish around it. However, I will have to say that I have also failed using hair to deter deer. I can remember times when it worked magically and others when the deer simply walked right over it without a problem in the world. It’s definitely worth a try if you have never tried it.
I picked this tip up a long, long time ago. If you know anything about deer, then you know that they can smell a lot better than we can. They use their noses to protect themselves from predators. Whenever there is a really rancid, strong scent in the area, more times than not they will stay away. Do you have any idea why? Well, when they get in the vicinity of such a strong scent, it decreases their ability of smelling anything else. It sort of compromises their main strength and thus makes them vulnerable to predators. Thanks for reading this article regarding tips for keeping deer away and under control. If you would like to read one of my previous posts, then check out deer repellent tips.

Barska AO Varmint Rifle Scope Review
In all my years of gun slinging, I have never heard so much controversy. Everybody wants something for nothing and everything is too good to be true. Do you ride this band wagon all over the place? If so, then you need to get off. Yep, everything that knew or thought you knew about rifle scopes is about to change. Or you could just decide not to believe me and neglect my writing because you think that I don’t know anything, but then again, I’ve only been hunting and such for eighteen years. I’ve only lived and breathed for august to roll around every year. Regardless of whether you want to listen, I have something to say. I have had just about every popular branded rifle scope that there is to have these days. Calm down critics – I could care less about your rants regarding some European scope that nobody has ever heard of. I didn’t say I owned every brand that there is to own, I simply said that I have many. I have a Zeiss, several Leupolds, a Nikon, a Simmons, a Vortex, and several barska rifle scopes. There you have it – my pickings of high quality scopes. If you know anything about scopes then you know that a Zeiss is a high quality piece of metal and glass. You may also know that it is among the finest of quality and I concur. It simply is the best. However, as I stated earlier I have something to say.
In all my years of hunting I have had much experience with scopes. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I had a center point scope as well. Where was I… in all my years eighteen years of experience I had spent many rounds at the range and in the woods. My primary objective was to ethically harvest deer. I was a highly esteemed piece of puke that hadto have the best of everything. I used to live by the motto –“daddy said that if it was to good to be true, then it probably is.” Well, I will tell you right now that that statement is not entirely factual. I bought a barska AO Varmint dot scope, sighting it in, and guess what happened? Nothing happened, it did its job. It put the round where I was aiming. But, but, but, but how does it perform with high powered rifles. Well, assuming that the majority of yous guys will be placing these scopes on .223 and .308, you will be fine. I used it on a 7mm Magnum, mac daddy tack driver and it has performed wonderfully. The clarity is good and the scopes ability to collect light is acceptable. Is it a telescopic, night vision seeking, seven hundred dollar piece of glass like the big Z, no. Did it help me by getting me out in the woods for less? While quite frankly it did. So for the amount of money I paid for it I will keep it along with my high dollar Z. For more information on the barska AO varmint scope, check it out here.
Mineral Sites For Deer
In all my years of deer hunting glory, I feel that I have finally mastered the art of the mineral site. I don’t like to write long, wordy posts so I will quickly explain this process for those who are just beginning. A mineral site is just what it sounds like – a mineral site for deer. They are predominately used in the summer and spring. I have tried them in the winter for years and have had little success. The point of these sites is to keep deer on your property and maintain the herd’s health. By keeping them full of essential minerals, the deer become healthy, which helps to build bigger horns on the herd bulls. Yes, I just called a big buck a herd bull. If you cannot understand this lay on words, then please do not take me for someone who thinks a male deer is called a bull. You see, the herd bull is the man of the woods when I am not there. We want to keep the herd bull well fed so he can stay healthy, pass his genes on, and then hopefully look good on my wall. Shall we continue?
The most common forms of deer minerals are salt blocks, and powders. There are actually a wide assortment of different products out on the market to choose from. I use fifty pound bags of salt, deer cane, black magic by deer cane, and ruttin apples. For the best results, I usually clear out a circle that is four feet in diameter. I make sure to get all of the leaves out of the way and try to avoid roots. I make sure there is a flat surface so that the juicy goodness doesn’t slide away when it rains. Another big question about this topic has to do with placement. Where do I put a mineral site for deer? Simple, the best place is near a trail. This way deer will naturally filter by your mineral site thus increasing the likely hood that it is found and used. They will be able to smell the goodness, so with time they will find it regardless of where you put it. That’s about all there is too it folks.

What’s So Good About The Barnett Ghost Hunting Crossbow?
There is a lot of buzz going around regarding barnetts newest addition to their fabulous line of arrow slinging, horizontal tack drivers. At first glance, there are two obvious attributes that tempt the average person. One being its good looks and two the fact that it shoots over four hundred feet per second. So already we have found two great benefits of the ghost – one being that it is easy on the eyes and two being that it shoots four hundred feet per second. This crossbow also has a carbon riser which does something else for the customer. If you know little about barnett’s two previous crossbow editions, then I will elaborate. Both the predator and the buck commander were great x bows, however they shared several things in common. Some of these attributes were good and others were bad. Both of them were accurate, fast, and durable. However, one of the negative comments coming from customers was that the crossbow was top heavy. That is, the riser felt heavy which made the bow feel unbalanced. If this sounds like a big problem, then hold on a second because it really isnt that big of a deal. Most reported that they got used to it, I personally loved the feel of the predator and buck commander. So here is where the ghost 400 kicks some serious tail. The new riser it boasts is made from carbon. Do you know what this means? Basically, it means that it is lighter making the crossbow feel well balanced in the shooters hand. I cant wait to test this tack drive out.
A Guide To Electronic Deer Repellent
httThe biggest misconception out there when it comes to animal control is that ultrasonic repellent devices are just a bunch of hyped up pieces of junk. To be quite honest, this is nothing but pure baloney. These devices have been used effectively on all sorts of pests including these furry things people call a mouse (I call them annoying). The simple facts are that science doesn’t lie – at least in this debate it doesn’t. Animals like the deer are able to hear on frequency levels that are much higher than those that we as humans are able to hear. What this means is that they can hear stuff that we cannot. So here is where these electronic deer control devices come into play. They emit an “ultra” high frequency sound waves that are SUPER loud to a deer, but are a mere hum to us. I honestly cant even hear the one that I have. If you haven’t gotten the message yet, then I will elaborate. If one of these deer deterring machines are placed out in a garden, they will repel them from coming any where near it.
So what constitutes a high quality product in this particular subject? I find it really hard to differentiate them because almost all of them have the same technology in them I prefer electronic deer repellent that oscillate between different frequencies. This is BIG when it comes to being effective with keeping these critters at bay. In some occasions, they will become used to or comfortable with the sound pitches. This is not good, but has been known to happen. With an oscillating device, it changes from different levels so that this doesn’t happen. Well folks, that about all there is when it comes to ultrasonic deer deterrents so good luck.

Deer Repellent Solutions
This is a post for all of you people that don’t want a big twelve pointer standing in your backyard. Deer are like goats, they will eat practically everything; your plants, vegetables, and anything that they can get their mouths on. They are not the smartest of creatures, but they all share one thing in common. That is, they are eating your vegetables and plants to survive and that is why they can be so persistent. So today I am here to talk about deer repellent. For those of you who are having some serious deer damage or problems, there is hope. I am going to talk about homemade deer repellent, repellents that you can buy, ultrasonic deer repellent devices, and a variety of other natural control methods.
The first step that a majority of people will try involves using some kind of chemical deer repellent. I can tell you from experience that liquid fence deer repellent works pretty well. Even though it is a chemical, it is safe for the environment too. So basically, most of these treatments are used to repel deer after the user has sprayed all of the plants that they want to protect. Simple right? Well here is where you have to pay attention to what you are doing. If you want to protect a vegetable or some plant that you plan on eating, then you need to make sure that the label or product states that it is safe or meant to be used on gardens where the customer is planning on eating the vegetables.
Ultrasonic Deer Repellent
Ultrasonic deer repellent is a pretty cool topic. These devices have been used on a variety of animals and have been pretty successful. I have used them myself on a variety of pests. Anyways, their purpose and how it works is simple. They emit ultra high sound frequency that sound a lot louder and annoying to deer than they do to humans. Most of them are supposed to be silent, but some customers have states that they have been able to hear a subtle humming noise. I haven’t been able to hear it on my model, but my grandmother had one a long time ago that I could hear. Controlling and repelling deer with ultrasonic devices is such a great idea because it works and is virtually maintenance free. Because deer can hear so much better than we can, the frequencies sound more like a jackhammer to them and that drives them away.
Natural Deer Repellent
Natural deer repellent involves homemade deer repellent recipes and barriers. Now, there are a lot of excellent homemade repellent recipes out there that are great. I used this one once and it was successful at controlling the deer and keeping them from damaging my plants in my garden. The recipe calls for 1 egg, ½ cup of milk, 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and then I added a gallon of water. After doing all of that I shook it up real good. Now, this recipe was not meant for plants that were to be eaten. Other natural deer control methods include using a barrier such as a fence or net. Fences cost a bit of money just to keep deer out of a garden, but hey – it would work. You would have to make it a high fence because deer can jump really high in the air. Netted fences are much more practical; you know, the nets that most people hit golf balls into. Plot master is another little secret tip. It’s a tape fence that I have used to keep deer out of my garden as well.

The Scoop On Cheap Hunting Crossbows
What constitutes a good deal on a hunting crossbow? Is it simply the price tag or are there other factors to be put into the equation? Quite frankly, we could argue about this forever however, there is some truth to what I have to say. Everybody likes money – correct? I sure hope so. So the number one aspect of crossbow shopping that comes into place is the price. People want the price low so they usually search for a “cheap hunting crossbow.” Well, listen to what I have to say about cheap x bows and then reformulate your opinion.
Do you know what factors into the price of an x bow? Speed, performance, durability, and customer service are a few big ones. One big factor that most are aloof to is the warranty. So when you pay the extra hundred dollars for a parker crossbow, do you know what you are receiving? That extra hundred or two includes a lifetime warranty and peace of mind. It also ensures that you will be able to contact a service rep and get your crossbow fixed so that you can get back to hunting.
So as you can see, there are a lot of different variables that factor into a hunting crossbow. I hope that most are able to logical deduce from reading this that the idea that the cheapest crossbow for sale is always the “cheapest.” That low price or “deal” sounds enticing at first, but could come back to bite you. From experience, I can honestly say that I have been there. I have purchased a cheaper x bow and have gone through the process of trying to contact a customer service department that seemingly did not exist. It really does stink folks. From those experiences I have learned that it is better to save my money and get the product that I really want, rather than the cheapest deal. Take the Barnett Jackal for instance. If you are like me, then you probably shrugged this model off at first glance because it was one of Barnett’s cheaper, lower line products. You probably thought that “it couldn’t be a high performance hunting crossbow because it is listed for under three hundred dollars.” If you are even more like me, then you probably did a little research as well. From that research you also learned that it had the same proven and tested riser as the barnett wildcat. From that information you said “wait a second,” and reconsidered your options. After learning this bit of information about the Barnett jackal I started to really become a believer. I read a few more reviews from trusted professionals in the market and then tried one out for myself. After that I was convinced. If you are still reading, then you are probably wondering what in the world my point is. I promise you, this insane rambling its purpose. The purpose is to explain to you folks that there are some less expensive, high performance compound hunting crossbows out there that are excellent bows for hunting game species such as the whitetail deer.
Ultimately, it all comes down to what the product has to offer and how it fits the customer. Don’t just base your conclusions on a price tag. I know that times are hard and that money is scarce, but hasty decisions often come back to haunt folks. So read lots of reviews, look at all crossbows within your price range, then go to a local sporting goods store to see if they will let you shoot the bow you have selecting in their designated target room. Only then will you truly know what the best deal on a crossbow is.

Barnett Ghost 400 Crossbow
Well, I guess the cat has been let out of the bag. Barnett finally spilled the beans about their new project at this year’s ATA show. It’s called the Barnett Ghost 400 and will replace the predator as the top model. I have not had the chance to do any real experimenting or field testing with this crossbow because……..well I am not that cool. I will be eventually, but right now I am just the runt in a litter of beagles. I will get to the point rather than deepen the extent of the web sewers. All the information that I have about the x bow right now is that it has a carbon riser and will send bolts hissing at a blistering speed of 400 fps. The Barnett Ghost will more than likely be priced around one thousand dollars retail. I cant do a crossbow review on the ghost at this moment, but will update in the near future. You can check out some pictures of this black beauty at the nation – the crossbow nation that is. You will have to sign up for a free membership to view the pictures.
Remington Nitro Piston Short Stroke Review
The remginton nitro piston short stroke is quite the air rifle. If you are new to this particula niche, then you should read this article before going ahead with any other pellet gun. As it turns out, technology has advanced the common air rifle with this new nitro piston technology. I really dont feel like explaining how this whole nitrogen piston thing works, so I will simply explain how it benefits the customer.
Nitro piston technology does one thing in particular for an air rifle. The hallmark feature of this technology is that it is ultra quiet compared to many of other loud break barrel air guns. To me the Remington NPSS sounds a lot like a silenced pellet gun compared to my gamo big cat 1200 - another great plinker as well. Not only does the nitro piston short stroke send pellets at blistering speeds up to 1200 fps, it also does it with accuracy. I was getting excellent groups out to fifty yards with this gun. Of course, I was using a good rest to make sure that the groups were not dependent on my skills. The results were impressive to say the least. I got solid, one inch groups at twenty five yards and one point five inch groups at fifty yards. Quite a feat for an air rifle I maight add.
So, what is the point of all this mumbo jumbo. The bottom line is that nitro piston air rifles tend to cost around a hundred dollars more than conventional models, but they are well worth the money. After owning one myself, and reading great reviews all across the net, the remington nitro piston short stroke air rifle is an accurate, fast, and quiet pellet gun for the money. Its available on amazon for you to check out here

Five Reasons Why The Parker Tornado Rocks
It really doesn’t take that much time to figure out which xbows are quality and what not. There are hunting crossbow review sites in the double digits that contain numerous comments of people who own the bows and know from firsthand experience whether or not the crossbow is quality or not. The only true way to tell if an x bow is a perfect match is to test it out before you buy. Many sporting goods stores will let customers do this. Today’s topic is the Parker tornado, a fine crossbow for those of you who have not shot it. It is by far the best crossbow for hunting and for the money in my opinion. I know the price is high, but this crossbow is relatively cheap when you break down the features.
The number one aspect that makes this hunting crossbow the best buy is its warranty. Parker has a lifetime warranty on all of their bows. This means that if it happens to break, Parker Tornado owners will have top of the line customer service representatives that will help them get back to the woods as soon as possible. I cannot tell you how aggravating it is to not be able to get a hold of a manufacturer’s customer service department. It seems like some of them are avoiding you on purpose. Yes, Parkers are expensive, but not that much more expensive. A hundred or two is not that much to pay for piece of mind with a high dollar purchase.
Another reason why the tornado hp is such a good choice is its feel. The design is very compact and fits me like a glove. Other crossbows I have shot are very wide and bulky – so bulky that it is hard to move in a tree stand without getting spotted by game.
To be honest, this x bow has everything. It has the speed, the quality, the compact design, the lifetime warranty and the great customer service – enough said.

Best Entry Level Crossbow
Hunters who want an entry level crossbow are either on a tight budget or simply wanting to see how they will like the horizontal bows. Regardless of how many times professionals preach about selecting the “best fitting” bow, people only want to hear what they want. So for this article we will not go there. I will only say that the best way to find the answers to your questions would be to go to a pro shop and shoot the bows yourself. Only then will you be able to decipher which bow you like best. In other words, the specs and pictures only tell you so much. Anyways, let’s move on shall we?
I guess now this article is moving on to what “I” view as the best entry level crossbow on the market. Therefore, I would have to set the budget for this crossbow at three hundred and fifty dollars. That really clears out all Excalibur’s, Parkers, and ten points – even their new line of affordable x bows called wicked ridge. So we are left with Barnett and Horton. I don’t like the summit 150 crossbow by Horton. I am sure that the name of it may be different but I don’t really give a rats you know what about the name. I know what it looks like, I know what it shoots like, and I personally just do not like it. So that leaves me with Barnett. More specifically, the Barnett Jackal for two hundred and seventy nine dollars. I have seen it lower, but most big name sellers have it for around the price of three hundred dollars. The Wildcat is a little more, but I have one of those and would rather keep the fifty dollars personally and go with the Jackal. I like the look and feel of the jackal better than the wildcat. Honestly, it has the same front end as the C5, but lacks just a little less speed and power. The jackal is plenty powerful enough to take down deer and what not. It’s been chronographed over three hundred and ten feet per second which is by far more than I expected. Sure, Barnett says that it can achieve three fifteen plus, but I thought that only professionals could get those kind of results. Another plus is that it is light and compact making it easy to hunt with out of a tree stand. It also has a five year warranty and the new crossfire strings. My pick for the best entry level crossbow is the Barnett Jackal.

Best Hunting Crossbow For 2011
Now that the year of 2010 is over, there is a lot to look forward to in 2011. As for crossbows, there have been a great many leaps and strides this past year. So what crossbow is the best or hot buy right at the moment? There are several crossbows out there right now that are pushing the limits and hitting spot on for the money. The first I would like to review is the Barnett Jackal. This was a new crossbow for the year 2010, but a year old now. It comes with a five year warranty I believe and can send a bolt three hundred and fifteen feet per second. After monitoring forums and reviews on this crossbow for a whole year, I have found no substantial issues with this bow. This device is light, compact, and has the power to get the job done. So does this mean that it is an entry level xbow? Not in my opinion it isn’t. This bow has all of the fine new qualities and perks that the other Barnett’s have except for an extra 25 to thirty feet per second. To be honest, three hundred and fifteen feet per second is plenty of speed to harvest a deer. While on the subject of Barnett crossbows, lets talk about the Buck commander. This is a sweet crossbow folks. It is fast and quiet for a crossbow. It has a lot of power and is reasonably priced. However, the Jackal is only two hundred and fifty dollars folks. It has the same front end as the wildcat as well. For that little dough, the Barnett Jackal is tough to beat.
The next hunting crossbow on the list is the parker tornado crossbow. Parker, as many of you already know, is a well respected manufacturer when it comes to the crossbow business. The tornado is no different. It is fast, and has one of the best feeling, most compact designs of any high performance crossbow out on the market today. Through in Parker’s lifetime warranty, great customer service, a few red hot bolts, and this crossbow is tough to beat as well.
As it turns out, there are a few new players on the block for the year of 2011. Barnett recently spilled the beans on their new project - the barnett ghost 400 crossbow. Horton is also supposed to be coming out with two new products called the brotherhood and the bone collector. I believe that one will shoot three hundred fps and the other right at 320 fps. Well, that is all for now folks.
