Hunting Crossbows On A Tight Budget

If you have stumbled on this page recently, then you are more than likely a tad bit interested in finding a cheap hunting crossbow or at least one that won’t put a large dent in the old wallet. Well, folks if this is the information that you seek, then have no fear – that is the information that I will attempt to list. As an avid hunter myself – the recent hunting crossbow craze has also caught my eye. However, there are a few barriers to entry that have also caught my eye. One of the main problems with finding the right hunting crossbow is the price. Just like any other piece of hunting equipment out there today, they are expensive. So today I am here to talk about why some crossbows are more expensive than others and how to select the right bow for the price.

When it comes to archery, there are two different types of  hunting crossbows – the compound and the recurve. The compound is usually quieter, but is more apt to have problems while the recurve is louder and is less likely to have something break. Your main competitors in the crossbow world are pretty simple to identify. The more affordable brands are Barnett and Horton. The more expensive brands are led by Tenpoint, PSE, Bowtech, Parker, and Excalibur. To be truthful, you will learn the most by checking out some hunting crossbow reviews. When I say lower end, I really mean 600 and under, while upper end is more around 750 and higher. Many of your Bowtech and Tenpoint bows will run in the thousands. However, not all of us have the cash laying around to spend on such an expensive piece of equipment. With that said, Barnett and Horton are the manufacturers that most people set their sights on. Barnett is actually the worlds leading crossbow manufacturer in crossbows sold. Many will tell you that Barnett also has the most problems as well. However, did they ever take into account that when you sell the most crossbows, then you are most definitely going to have an elevated number of problems as well? It makes sense folks. Wicked Ridge may be another one that you might want to consider. Wicked Ridge is made by tenpoint and is much more affordable. They are priced in the three to five hundred dollar range. That is what I talked about in the hunting crossbow review page. With that said, I am not going to say that you will not run into problems with a Barnett, Horton, or Wicked Ridge crossbow – because anything could happen. Many find that taking the proper maintenance precautions and taking care of their archery equipment prolongs its life by a long shot.
